The Jury Duty Prison Blues.

Can I hold the Key?

http://www.theoldjailmuseum.com/index.html

I received a summons for federal court.
For jury duty.
I didn't fulfill my oblation.
I forgot the evening check-in call.
Uh-oh.
Since I’m a first offender,
I’d like to go to a Jail . . . Museum!
That would be fun

I could have my own room at Eastern State Penitentiary.

Breathing space at the Texas Prison Museum

The historic downtown of Truckee, California has a jail museum also.

Stop by and say HI!

Kansas, The Sunflower State.

State Motto -  " Ad astra per aspera."
(To the stars through difficulties.)

Kansas was admitted to the Union, as the 34th state, on January 29, 1861

www.travelks.com
Throughout 2011, Kansas will host a full slate of sesquicentennial events.

First stop Atchison. The birthplace of Amelia Earhart and the most haunted town in Kansas!  Going solo and facing down ghosts. So there!

I’ll be heading westbound on part of the the Santa Fe trail, to Dodge City where I plan to set a spell. A city with two pools!

I’m sure to zig and zag along the way looking at the painted barns celebrateilng 150 years of Kansas  statehood.

By the way,
The Geographical Center of the United States is located about two miles northwest of Lebanon in Kansas!

Have I stayed too long at the Fair?

NO!  I never want to leave!!

This is my fair.  It’s a certain comfort to know your fair by heart.
But wow, I gotta see these!  Lots of driving in the fall!

The Iowa State Fair is held in August,  Here is a brief 2010 sampling of food on a stick: Start with a Salad on-a-stick. Then a nice lunch of Chicken club on-a-stick.  But, oh my, what to choose for dessert?  Deep fried Milky Way bar on-a-stick or Twinkie log on-a-stick (frozen Twinkie dipped in white chocolate and rolled in cashews).  Also, it has dozens of contests including Women's Rubber Chicken Throwing!  I have got to see this!

The State Fair of Texas. The greatest Fair in the World.  It’s open most of October.
This fair has lots of food contests. From casseroles to BBQ to Spam.  And many food hobby collections, such as Butter Dishes, Cook Books and Cooking pamphlets!
Last, but hardley least, there is the  Glue a Shoe Contest. I don’t know what this is, just that the rules say - no edible substances!

The Minnesota State Fair is another big Fair, open late August to early September. The oldest ride at this fair is the permanent  Ye Olde Mill, built in 1913, is an old fashion boat ride.  This fair seems to have a lot to offer in two short weeks!  And a campground opens just for the fair.

(It seems that Iowa has the Ye Old Mill ride also! Yet not as old as the Olde one.  New in 1921.    http://www.blueribbonfoundation.org )

The Complete RV Handbook

This book lives up to its name.  And one I’ll keep in the rolling library.  It has lots of checklists, including a departure list to remind you not to drive off with your TV antenna up, or leave your hammock tied to a tree.  It is jam packed with trouble shooting tips from hot A/C to low water pressure.
My favorite part is
chapter 18, Going Full Time.
It answers much about the Pesky Permanent Address problem. I’m so glad there are others before me!

I Found a Silver Lining . . .

. . . in my park.

My Legs are in Love!

Today I had to avoid a walking smoker. I went off the path into a field and come across a HILL! I’ve been walking in this park for only 20 plus years! How did I not notice the only hill in this town.

The leaves never change color where I live, but every year in the news I hear all about the Leaf Peepers.  Sign me up!

There is
nothing like a State Capital building. The old styles are very detailed and so pretty. This site has video clips.  http://www.cga.ct.gov/capitoltours/

Alaska, Land of the Midnight Sun.

State Motto -  “North  to the Future”

Adopted by the Constitutional Convention February 5, 1956.  Ratified by the People of Alaska April 24, 1956.   Became Operative with the Formal Proclamation of Statehood January 3, 1959.

I’ll  make it to Alaska in year two or three on my journey.  I will have my passport at the ready since I’ll have to drive through Canada on the way.

What to do there? I’ll have to check out Alaska's chapter of BOW, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, and catch a salmon of my own!      http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/bow/

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game can show me what a real Salmon looks like.
Ready to Eat!
