Louisiana - The Pelican State

Map of La.
State Motto  -  "Union, Justice, and Confidence."

The purchase added to the United States a region very different from others on the American map. The United States government made Louisiana residents go through a trial period before admitting Louisiana as a state.

On April 30, 1812, exactly nine years after the signing of the Louisiana Purchase, Congress admitted Louisiana as the eighteenth state in the Union.     http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/

Just a Little Elbow Grease

I grew up surrounded by brick. And I think it should show! When I bought my little house the brick stoop was . . . painted!!  So the chore of the month is to uncover the beauty of the brick!

stoop  (stLp)
n. Chiefly Northeastern U.S.
A small porch, platform, or staircase leading to the entrance of a house or building.
[Dutch stoep, front verandah, from Middle Dutch.]
Regional Note: Originally brought to the Hudson Valley of New York by settlers from the Netherlands, a few items of Dutch vocabulary have survived there from colonial times until the present. Stoop, "a small porch," comes from Dutch stoep; this word is now in general use in the Northeast and is probably spreading.
